Trotz einer langen Tradition der Beziehungen zwischen Frankreich und dem Balkan lässt sich weder während der Balkan-Kriege noch heute eine spezifisch französische Politik in der Region ausmachen. In Abgrenzung zu der traditionell proserbischen Orientierung Frankreichs entwickelt sich, unterstützt von der öffentlichen Meinung und den Medien, nach dem Zerfall Jugoslawiens eine politisch wie humanitär aktive Solidaritätsbewegung mit Bosnien-Herzegowina. Während des Kosovo-Konflikts im Jahr 1999 beteiligt sich Frankreich unter der Präsidentschaft Chirac ohne eigene strategische Ambitionen an der NATO-Offensive und unterstützt im Einklang mit seinen europäischen Partnern nach dem Jahr 2000 den demokratischen Wandel Serbiens. Trotz diplomatischer und kultureller Präsenz Frankreichs in den neuen Balkan-Staaten bleibt die wirtschaftliche und politische Kooperation mit der Region schwach ausgeprägt. Although relations between France and the Balkans have existed for a long time, no specific French policy has been shaped in this area neither during the Balkan Wars nor nowadays. After Yugoslavia’s disintegration, breaking away from its traditional pro-Serbian policy, France developed a political and humanitarian active solidarity towards Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was strongly supported by public opinion and the media. During the Kosovo conflict in 1999, under Jacques Chirac’s presidency, France took part in the NATO offensive without showing any national strategic ambition. After the year 2000, and in agreement with its European partners, France supported Serbia’s transition to democracy. Even if France is present diplomatically and culturally in the new Balkan states, cooperation with this area on political and economic matters is still weak. Nicolas Sarkozy's European policy of openness towards the Balkans is quite reserved, as is the case for his European partners.... view less
