Literalität als soziale Praxis im Stadtteil: ein ethnografischer Ansatz für die Grundbildungspraxis

Abstract

Die theoretische Diskussion zur Alphabetisierungsarbeit ist im deutschsprachigen Raum weit mehr von einer Defizitorientierung geprägt als die angelsächsische Debatte. Mit dem vorliegenden Beitrag wird dieses Theoriedefizit verkleinert, in dem der ethnographische Forschungsansatz von Barton/Hamilton zu Local Literacies für eine Erhebung empirischer Literalitätspraxen rezipiert wird. Das vorgestellte Projekt untersucht anhand eines Hamburger Stadtteils, wie und wofür Lesen und Schreiben genutzt werden. Neben die Beobachtung von Schrift im öffentlichen Raum treten Interviews und Multiplikatorengespräche. Die Untersuchung schafft einen theoretischen Rahmen für eine an der Lebenswelt orientierte Alphabetisierungsarbeit, die in der Praxis längst an der Tagesordnung ist.

A look back at the history of literacy discussions as a debate starting in the 1970s and heavily influenced by international organisations. The urgency of the subject is demonstrated at the start by international figures on the extent of illiteracy. The author sees today's questions and issues as rooted in the 1980s and 1990s; in his overview of the German government's current funding focus he points out that there is no need to constantly reinvent the wheel. The analysis focuses particularly on the UNESCO, the OECD and national NGOs.
