"Ritualized hostile behavior towards male homosexuality is prevalent among male youth. Boys are often ignorant about male homosexuality, exclude homosexuals, and/or are violent towards them. This article, which is based on the interpretation of empirical material collected through focus group discussions, proves how gay men can be treated with an open-minded acceptance instead of exclusion and stigmatization. The article shows that the boys' group formations, i.e. peer groups and cliques, have an impact on how male homosexuals are treated. Our study demonstrates the ambivalences of insecurity and constant scrutiny of one's own male role and identity which need to be generated in this process of recognition."
