Bankenkrise in Bulgarien

Abstract

'Der folgende Bericht ist das Ergebnis eines Arbeits- und Forschungsaufenthaltes von März bis Juli 1996 bei der Bulgarischen Nationalbank. Der Bericht analysiert die makroökonomischen Faktoren der Bankenkrise Bulgariens, welche sich seit Beginn der Transformation abzeichnet und im Jahre 1996 akut wurde. Die bulgarische Bankenkrise zeigt besonders deutlich stellvertretend für andere Ökonomien Mittel- und Osteuropas die Problematik der Transformation des Finanzsektors.' (Autorenreferat)

'The present report is the outcome of a period of work and research spent by the author at the Bulgarian National Bank from March to July 1996. The report analyzes the macro-economic factors behind the banking crisis in Bulgaria, which had been developing since the onset of transformation and came to a head in 1996. The Bulgarian banking crisis provides a particularly striking example of the problems encountered in the transformation of the financial sector in this and other economies of Central and Eastern Europe.'
