(Autorenreferat)... view less

"For 'the child, science and the state' - with this credo paediatrics in its founding days understood itself as a 'social science of the child', that still united natural and social scientific knowledge and that aimed at being both scientifically ambitious and socially critical. After this early, quasi-omnipotent phase, paediatrics gradually transformed itself into a natural scientifically grounded medical subject and socialpaediatric references remained relevant only for the clinical practice. In this process, the attitude towards the child changed again and again from the social-reformatory Enlightenment paediatrician to the patriot and repressive educator, who lost track of his function as advocate of the child. Within the development of paediatric knowledge, the issue of education consistently played a role, although the educational ideas developed were a reflection of the particular situation of the subject to always have to re-position itself between political cooptation, neutral professionalism, and socially critical engagement. In the following article, these social implications of paediatric theories will be presented." (author's abstract)... view less
