Kunstproduktion und soziale Bewegungen: zur Theorie eines vernachlässigten Zusammenhangs

Abstract

"Der Zusammenhang von sozialen Bewegungen und künstlerischer Produktion scheint durch die Aufmerksamkeitsraster einer an Individuen und ihren Produkten interessierten Kunstgeschichte auf der einen und den mehr an Produktionsverhältnissen und kollektiven Organisations- und Kommunikationsformen ausgerichteten Sozialwissenschaften hindurchzurutschen. Da, wo er thematisiert wird, vor allem im Kontext poststrukturalistischen Ansätze, werden die feldinternen Positionierungen und die Kämpfe um deren Durchsetzung zu gering geschätzt. Zudem wird tendenziell vorausgesetzt, es gebe immer über das Kunstfeld hinausreichende Effekte. Der Text plädiert für eine Lesweise des Zusammenhangs von Kunstproduktion und sozialen Bewegungen, der dessen Effekte nicht als unmöglich, aber auch nicht als selbstverständlich begreift. Neue symbolische Setzungen in der Kunst und die Verschiebung von Wertmaßstäben basieren auf feldinternen Kämpfen einerseits, sind andererseits aber auch als 'cultural politics' zu begreifen, die auf der Ebene der gesellschaftlichen Symbolproduktion agieren." "The correlation between Social Movements and artistic production seems to be ignored by an art history on the one hand, which is oriented to individuals and their products, and by Social Sciences on the other, which are geared to production relationships and collective forms of organization and communication. Where this correlation is addressed at all, especially in contexts of post-structural theory, too little attention is given to positionings within the field and disputes over their implementation. Furthermore it is assumed that there are always effects reaching beyond the art field itself. The text argues for a reading of the correlation between art production and Social Movements that considers its effects not as impossible, but also not as self-evident. New symbolic settings in art and an adjustment of measures of values are based on disputes within the field, but are also to be conceived as 'cultural politics' operating at the level of the production of social symbols."
