Theorienentwicklung und -konstruktion in der Sozialpsychologie

Abstract

"Das Ziel dieser kleinen Studie ist der Frage nachzugehen, warum Theorienentwicklung und -konstruktion in der Sozialpsychologie letztlich nur einen untergeordneten Stellenwert besitzt. Hierzu werden das Verhalten der ForscherInnen in der Sozialpsychologie und die normativen Ansprüche aus einer wissenschaftstheoretischen Position als Widerspruch betrachtet. Ferner werden Hinweise auf die Einstellung zur Theorienbildung und der Umgang mit vorangegangener Forschung diskutiert. Das Ergebnis zeigt, dass das individuelle Verhalten des Forschers und die Einlösung normativer wissenschaftstheoretischer Kriterien in der Forschung zu einem sozialen Dilemma führen, das zuungunsten der allgemeinen Wissenschaftsentwicklung aufgelöst wird. Um dieser negativen Entwicklung aus der Sicht des Wissenschaftsfortschrittes entgegenzuwirken, werden vier Maßnahmen vorgeschlagen: a) die gezielte historische Aufarbeitung der Ideen in der Sozialpsychologie, b) die Präzisierung der Begriffe durch prägnante Explikationen, c) die Einsetzung einer Task force zur Erarbeitung einer Darstellungsform von theoretischen Konzepten und d) die gezielte Förderung eines Forschungsprogramms zur Entwicklung einer globalen Theorie auf einem inhaltlichen Gebiet als ein Beispiel für andere inhaltlichen Gebiete." "The main aim of this small report is to discuss the question why theory development and theory construction in social psychology are of only low importance. To clarify this question the individual behaviour of researchers and the normative demands of the philosophy of science are found as contradictory. Furthermore, the attitudes towards theory construction and the dealing with historical research ideas are discussed. The results show clearly that the individual behaviour and the scientific criteria create a social dilemma which is solved to the disadvantage of the general development of science. To counteract this negative development from the view of philosophy of science, four measures are proposed: a) the well-aimed historical reviewing of theoretical ideas in social psychology, b) precise explication of central terms in social psychology, c) implementation of a task force to develop a description form of theoretical concepts, and d) the specific promotion of a research program to develop a global theory in a well-defined area of content as an example for other areas."
