"The main emphasis of this paper is placed on the use of qualitative interviews with children of pre-school age. Until now, in the field of qualitative social research only very few studies that include children of this age in the collection of data have been conducted. Beyond that, there are even less publications concerning methodical questions and practical experience of research in this field. In fact, objections often raised to interviewing young children seem to hamper empirical research experience which is essential for further debates about methodical questions. Based on a study and the use of qualitative interviews with four and five-year-old children this paper presents the methodical findings of the practical experience and attempts to formulate implications for further empirical research. It aims to analyze possible ways to involve even young children as competent participants in social research projects and thus disprove the often claimed defects of this kind of research."
