"Never before the social structures of a society have been determined by the access to labor as one of the most important stratification factors. This is a result of a long-term development in which the social value of labor changed from a moral criteria determining the potential virtue of a person in the antique to a criteria describing the personal status in contemporary society. It can be shown that this is influenced not only by economic innovations but also by social, religious and moral changes. To understand the importance of labor in our days it is necessary to analyze the historical change of the social and moral role of labor. The following article tries to analyze the different meanings of labor from the antique to the industrial society." (author's abstract)... view less
