(Autorenreferat)... view less

"Responsibility has become an important notion in contemporary moral philosophy. In the context of ethics of institutions or systems this article tries to shed light onto the question whether or not a concept of collective responsibility can be helpful within the theory of responsibility. In order to clarify this problem this article starts with a summary of the theory of responsibility. The dimensions of responsibility are explained as are the different types and aspects of responsibility. From this platform a discussion of the pros and cons of the thought of a collective subject is traced. The acceptance of the possibility of a collective subject hinges on the ontological supposition of the possibility that a collective body can have its own existence. If this can be accepted the thought of collective responsibility offers a number of advantages." (author's abstract)... view less
