"The banking industry operates in a stringent framework of regulation and supervision imposed upon it by national legislation on one side and of specific rules of self regulation by its own branch associations on the other. The remaining free space of action is being used by the banks to formulate their own ethical standards to their stakeholders. In spite of all these constraints and rules, controls and sanctions are unavoidable. The author pleads in favour of introducing ethics in banking lectures in university courses as a possible means to combat the source of unethical behaviour." (author's abstract)... view less
