"This paper presents and discusses quantitative and qualitative results of a study conducted in Switzerland from 2004 to 2006. The project was embedded in the National Science Programme 52 'Childhood, Youth and Intergenerational Relationships'. This article focuses on the role of media in the construction of personal and social identity in adolescents with migrant background. The quantitative part summarizes results from a written survey carried out with 1.468 12- to 16-year-old pupils in culturally mixed school classes. The qualitative part draws on interviews and photographic self-documentaries of youngsters, aged 12 to 18, from eight families with Turkish or Turkish-Kurdish background."
