 abstract = {The present paper demonstrates that existing methods of financing of organizations of higher education in Russia cannot be used as a supporting tool for knowledge production, which leads to decrease in quality of educational services in the field of higher education. Endowments are proposed as a tool of financing. Endowment statistics for Russia and other countries is given. Obstacles that hinder development of endowments in Russia are analyzed.},
