"The study analyzes the frequency of conflicts in couples. The author's present a simple model of the conflict process and a number of hypotheses on the conditions leading to conflict. The data basis of their analysis is a survey among 358 persons in Cologne, including the partners of 228 of the participants. The results show that the frequency of conflicts depends on the degree of the institutionalization of a relationship, conflict behavior, characteristics of the personality, and partners' social stress resulting from situations outside of the relationship."
