"New social formations, such as groups, markets, or networks, emerge not only due to direct relational exchanges between individual actors but also due to the stories told by participating actors. A new market emerges initially because of the stories the involved actors tell about future products and results, which, in turn, generate interpretations and expectations and mobilize financial resources. As a theoretical approach and research program, relational sociology combines cultural and structural aspects and is proving to be particularly useful for explaining how social formations emerge."
