El artículo, escrito desde planteamientos metodológicos de la historia social (del tiempo presente), ejemplarizante, el análisis de larga duración y el recurso de la narrativa como herramienta del historiador, presenta la violencia actual en Colombia, cuyo caso paradigmático es la ciudad de Medellín, como una etapa nueva, distinta de las violencias anteriores (según el análisis que empleara Pécaut). Esta etapa nueva viene definida por la globalización y la economía del narcotráfico, el fracaso de la identidad nacional y una violencia generalizada impregnada de una condición eminentemente posmoderna. Using the present methodological approaches to Social History, a long period of analysis and the narrative genre as the historian's main tool, this article shows Medellin as the paradigm of violence in Colombia nowadays and considers this a new period of violence which differs from its predecessors (according to Pecaut's analysis). This new stage is mainly defined by globalization and the economy generated by drug trafficking, the failure of national identity and violence, which has become widespread, as a result of its conspicuously postmodern nature. Thus, we're dealing with an specific type of postmodern violence confronting social classes, and it's therefore in need of structural changes involving Colombian society as a whole.... view less
