(Autorenreferat)... view less

'On the basis of surveys in the general population in the east german cities of Chemnitz, Dresden and Leipzig it is analysed, how media are received and what their effects are on fear of crime. Newspaper readership, hours of daily TV use and viewing of fictious crime movies does not have effects. The viewing of crime magazines, where real crimes are restaged and the viewer is encouraged to help in the search of the offender, on the other hand has an impact. The relationship is causal as panel data show.' (author's abstract)|... view less
