Abstract

(Autorenreferat)... view less

'Many feminist social movements in the 19th and 20th century have been characterized by a very radical moral rigorism that is suspected of having served the social and economic interests of the middle classes, directly and indirectly. The essay analyzes by an international comparison (Great Britain, USA, Germany) the structural causes of the first wave of feminism and the coalition between feminism and 'moral entrepreneurship' (1). Secondly, the paper explores the interests that had an effect on the aims of these movements and their definitions of social problems (2). Thirdly, the author analyzes which social patterns of interpretation have contributed to the success of the coalition of feminism and moral rigorism. Finally the author discusses the question whether the alliance between feminism and moral rigorism may be successful in the contemporary situation.' (author's abstract)|... view less
