'In the German General Social Survey (ALLBUS) 1994 a new sampling design offered the opportunity to control the correct realisation of the 3505 interviews systematically. In six percent of the cases irregularities were detected. As a result of the examination of these cases, about half of them turned out to be faked by the interviewers. This percentage is much lower than that some critics think is the rule in survey research. Nevertheless, this result demonstrates the need to improve standard control techniques of the survey institutes, because the faked interviews have not been detected by the regular postcard verification.'
