(Autorenreferat)... view less

'It is often claimed that people in our media-dominated information society suffer from loneliness. Alongside this view of social disintegration as linked to modernisation and media use, other explanations of change take as their starting points liberalisation, ambivalence or polarisation. The paper outlines these various models, focusing in particular on the concepts of loneliness and the information society. Selected findings are presented from a nationally representative survey conducted by EMNID which point to polarisation effects.' (author's abstract)|... view less
