'In both Eastern and Western Germany the medical profession is held in high esteem not only by society but also by the members of that profession itself. This is one of the results of a survey of medical practitioners in 1992/93. Because of the theoretical conception of the empirical analysis, it will be possible to give a differentiated view of the prestige of the medical profession. Of course, the presented results about the doctor's self-assessment of the practitioner's social prestige are interesting where the current discussion about the reform of the German Health Care System is concerned. But here we only desire to provide an exemplary discussion of the study on 'Medical Profession and Medical Practice'.' (author's abstract)|... view less
