(Autorenreferat)... view less

'In this article, the specification of interaction effects in different statistical models is analysed. By taking the vote for the right-wing extremist party 'Die Republikaner' as an example, it is shown that a multiple logistic regression model always includes interaction effects which can be seen as the consequence of shifts in the latent reaction thresholds. However, social theories often specify another type of interaction which is not easily identified in logistic regression models. In such a situation the automatic interaction detection by the program CHAID (Chi-Squared Automatic Interaction Detection) is useful. We use the program in order to detect a theoretically meaningful interaction structure in the data. On the basis of these results a new logistic regression model is specified which neatly fits the data and our theoretical reasoning.' (author's abstract)|... view less
