Studienfachwahl: soziale Reproduktion oder fachkulturelle Entscheidung

Abstract

'Ausgehend von der bourdieuschen Reproduktionstheorie und der Fachkulturforschung wird in diesem Beitrag die Frage untersucht, ob an den Universitäten eine Hierarchie der Fächer nach der sozialen Herkunft der Studierenden existiert und ob sich diese im Zeitverlauf zwischen den Jahren 1985 und 2004 verändert hat. Zudem wird der relative Einfluss von Motivationsstrukturen im Vergleich zur sozialen Herkunft für die Studienfachwahl modelliert. Mit Hilfe von Daten der Konstanzer Arbeitsgruppe Hochschulforschung kann im Rahmen von multinomialen Logit-Modellen gezeigt werden, dass zwar signifikante Effekte der sozialen Herkunft auf die Studienfachwahl existieren, jedoch sind diese im Vergleich zu den Motivationsmerkmalen der Studierenden relativ gering und schichtunabhängig.' 'On the background of the reproduction theory of Pierre Bourdieu this contribution analyzes the hierarchy of the fields of study in dependency of the social origin of the students between 1985 and 2004. Additionally the relative impact of the students' motivation on the choice of a field of study is surveyed. With data of the working group on university research (Konstanz) multinomial logit models are computed. It can be shown that there are significant effects of the social origin on the choice of a field of study. However, these effects are relatively week compared to the motivation.' (author's abstract)|
