Das dialogische Selbst: interkulturelle Kommunikation "in" der Person?

Abstract

The dialogical self is seen not only as a promising alternative which exceeds traditional psychological concepts of the self, but also as adequate model for a specific "diasporic self" which may be fruitfully employed in acculturation research. By application of the notions of "dialogicality" and "multivoicedness" by M. Bachtin the idea of the decentralization of the self becomes so dominant that the counteridea of a synthesizing force seems hardly plausible. A short glance to some empirical studies working with the model of the dialogical self, however, reveals that a coherent identity of some kind is attributed to the research partner by the theorist and researcher, even though the theory itself, pointing to decentralization and hybridity of cultural identity, excludes the idea of a unifying force. Starting from this discrepancy, proposals for a reconceptualization of the theoretical concept are made. In doing so, the question of the aspired unity of the self is reflected with regard to the tension between semiotic-postmodern theory and the practical everyday situation of migrants.

Das "dialogische Selbst" wird nicht nur als viel versprechende Alternative zu traditionellen psychologischen Theorien des Selbst aufgefasst, sondern auch als adäquate begriffliche Fassung eines spezifisch "diasporischen Selbst", die sich in der empirischen Akkulturationsforschung gewinnbringend einsetzen lässt. Die Übertragung der Konzepte "Dialogizität" und "Vielstimmigkeit" von M. Bachtin in ein psychologisches Modell des Selbst rückt allerdings die These der radikalen Dezentrierung des Selbst so stark in den Vordergrund, dass der eigens eingeführte Gegenbegriff einer synthetisierenden Instanz des Selbst zur Farce gerät. Wirft man einen Blick auf empirische Forschungsarbeiten aus dem Bereich der Akkulturationsforschung, die sich auf das Konzept des dialogischen Selbst stützen, wird dagegen deutlich, dass sich die Annahme einer kohärenten Identität der Forschungspartner bisweilen auch dort performativ durchsetzt, wo sie - wieder mit Verweis auf die Dezentrierung und Hybridität des Selbst - theoretisch in Frage gestellt wird. Von dieser Diskrepanz ausgehend werden Vorschläge für die Überarbeitung des Theoriekonzepts unterbreitet, die die Frage nach der Möglichkeit einer Einheit des dialogischen Selbst mit der Reflexion der Spannung zwischen semiotisch-postmoderner Theorie und der praktischen Lebenssituation von Migranten verbindet.
