Abstract

The article discusses issues related to the introduction of electric vehicles in public transport. Selected legal aspects included in EU and national documents regarding the implementation of buses with alternative drive in the urban transport system were presented. The benefits resulting directly from the operation of these vehicles are described, as well as the challenges faced by entities implementing electric rolling stock, including: the issue of the need to expand the electricity infrastructure for charging the batteries of this type of vehicles. The article presents innovative investments and changes in the form of management in Miejskie Zakład Komunikacji Sp. z o. o. in Zielona Góra (hereinafter: MZK), which contributed to a significant improvement in the operation of the company and raising the standard of services provided at a world-class level, especially in terms of promoting low-emission public transport and the concept of sustainable development.
