Zur sozialen Nachhaltigkeit aktueller Waldeuphorien: Ein Vergleich zwischen Japan und Deutschland

Abstract

Das gestiegene Interesse an Natur und Wald wirft die Frage auf, wie sich die neue "Waldeuphorie" auf Wald und Gesellschaft auswirkt. Aus der Perspektive sozialer Nachhaltigkeit untersucht der Beitrag die Konsequenzen "sanfter" (= nicht aktiv-sportlicher) Waldbesuche in Japan als dem Land, von dem "Waldbaden" und "Waldtherapie" ihren Ausgang nahmen, und in Deutschland anhand einer vergleichenden Analyse. Das Datenmaterial basiert überwiegend auf eigenen empirischen Forschungen in beiden Ländern. Beginnend mit einer Erörterung des Begriffs "soziale Nachhaltigkeit" in der Fachliteratur bietet der Beitrag einen Überblick über Konditionen und strukturelle Zusammenhänge des Waldinteresses in beiden Ländern, gefolgt von ihrer Analyse aus der Perspektive sozialer Nachhaltigkeit. Es zeigt sich, dass die Waldbesuche neben Verbesserungen der Gesundheit eine Reihe weiterer positiver Konsequenzen im Sinne sozialer Nachhaltigkeit bringen könnten, diese Möglichkeiten aktuell aber weitgehend ungenutzt bleiben. A Comparative Study of Germany and Japan Summary In most western countries, interest in nature has been growing for the last one or two decades, this tendency being particularly conspicuous in German-speaking regions. In the article, it is asked what consequences this will have with regard to social sustainability in Japan as the country where forest bathing and forest therapy were created. The case of Germany will be discussed comparatively. The data for the analysis are based on empirical research carried out in both of these countries. Starting with an examination of the meaning of the term "social sustainability" in the professional literature, the article discusses the conditions and structural relations of "forest euphoria" in both countries before analysing them from the perspective of social sustainability. It is shown that visits to the forest can cause a number of positive effects apart from health improvement, but that most of these chances are not taken advantage of.
