"This paper addresses the relationship between societal changes, scientific attributions of adolescence and public denotations of youth as a life stage in development. Zinnecker assumed that during the last two decades economy and politics were placing youth as a hinge between childhood and adulthood with the function efficient time use for labor preparation. This paper broadens this perspective to the role of empirical educational research which also fostered the notion of youth as time for efficient preparation for the labor market instead of emphasizing youth as a biographical eigenvalue."
