Ziel dieses Beitrags ist es, forschungsethische Prämissen und Problemfelder des qualitativen kommunikationswissenschaftlichen Untersuchens von Interaktion und Kommunikation auf online-medialen Plattformen zu bestimmen. Der Umgang mit zwei Problemfeldern wird für das teilnehmende Beobachten in der deutsch- und englischsprachigen Wikipedia demonstriert. Es wird im ersten Problemfeld betrachtet, welche Konsequenzen die (bedingte) Öffentlichkeit von selbst-, fremd- oder systemgenerierten Informationen für das Gewährleisten von Anonymität hat. The paper examines the ethical premises and trade-offs inherent to the qualitative study of communication and interaction within online platforms, using the example of a participant observation of the German and English versions of the user-generated Wikipedia. Conceptually, the first area of ethical concern is developed with regard to the varying publicness of information produced by users about users, and through digital technology and the need to assure the anonymity of research subjects. The second area of ethical concern is then established in terms of user anonymity and its impact on warranting informed consent.
