"The discourse about 'Intercultural Communication' within the police still remains indefinite, as concerns the definition of its contents, its potentials and its limiting factors. This article offers a draft of intercultural competence and skills as a method of observation and analysis, which - following the idea of an ethnographic perspective - is meant to sharpen one's senses and the awareness regarding to what the participants themselves may contribute to a single, concrete situation. The knowledge, gained in this way, is regarded to be suitable - so the reasoned argument to convict - for an adequate and appropriate handling of and dealing with diversity in every day police work, rather than speculating about specific 'cultural' reasons for individual behavior."
