"A different profile for application-oriented research has been the subject of discussion in the social sciences for some time now. This new understanding of research views research as a motivation-centric and transdisciplinary activity that is pursued by a broad range of university and non-university institutes and as part of various scientific disciplines. Theory and practice take on a new relationship to one another in this understanding. Different views on ways to establish a profile for an application-oriented self-image of vocational training research and on criteria for research work and its quality and relevance were presented at the BIBB workshop 'New Understanding of Research in the Social Sciences - Implications for Vocational Training Research at BIBB?' This discussion paper contains the individual reports and contributions from this workshop." (author's abstract)... view less
