"Interactive internet applications ('web 2.0') open up new opportunities for collaborative 'social' production of knowledge-based, immaterial products by internet users. Profit organizations are also taking advantage of these opportunities in order to integrate the activities of internet users in commercial production process. This paper develops an analytical framework for understanding such forms of 'consumer work' facilitated by web 2.0 applications. It refers to the concept of the 'working customer', which was designed to analyze self-service contexts. The paper concludes with a discussion of open research questions and reflections on methods needed to better conceptualize the various aspects of web-2.0 commercialization."
