Improving source criticism to cope with new types of sources and old ones better : a reminder and a partial agenda

Abstract	Viele Historiker betrachten es als erwiesen, daß einer ihrer bedeutendsten Beiträge zu einer Geschichte der Sozialwissenschaft in ihrer Fähigkeit liegt, historisches Beweismaterial zu beurteilen und zu bestätigen. In dem Artikel werden ernsthafte Zweifel daran geweckt, ob dies auch bei der vorhandenen Übermenge von Verwaltungsakten - hier 'Massenakten' genannt - der Fall ist. Es wird ein Plädoyer für eine neue sozialwissenschaftliche oder Kontextquellenkritik im Umgang mit diesen Quellen gehalten. (KWübers.) 'Many historians take it for granted that one of their major contributions to a social science history would be their art to assess and verify historical evidence. This article raises serious doubts whether this will also be the case for the plethora of administrative case files ('Massenakten'). A pledge for a new socialscientific or contextual source criticism to cope with these sources is made.' (author's abstract)
