'In the last decades network analysis has become a booming sector within sociology. Advancements in concepts, mathematics and computer technology have contributed to an ongoing and rapid professionalisation. However, a persistent argument against network analysis (and the whole of structural analysis) is a claimed theoretical gap. New efforts to classify structural analysis ended up with three major trends, i.e. structural-determinist, -instrumentalist and -constructionist. Taking structure as a starting point, this article tries to scrutinize the potentials, constraints and perspectives of the structural-constructionist current, esp. referring to the sociology of social problems.'
