'In all generations, hands-on experience with technical innovations has always been important. In former times, young people were mainly fascinated by motorcycles and motorbikes. Nowadays, adventure-oriented technologies are the great attraction. Every other young person reports having his or her own computer. More than two thirds of all children and almost 85% of all adolescents have used a computer. Almost 90% of all youngsters 15 to 18 own a cell phone. The dissolution and transformation of traditional living situations and family relationships, particularly the restructuring of childhood and adolescence, constitute the background against which the author explores the question of how these new gadgets may be used in a meaningful and satisfying way by putting them into individual contexts for the young 'techies' of the @ generation.'
