Abstract Zum ethnographischen Forschungsprozeß gehört nicht nur die Datensammlung und -analyse, sondern auch die Erstellung eines Forschungsberichts. Qualitativ vorgehende Forscher arbeiten nicht-standardisiert und sind daher grundsätzlich nicht im Stande, Daten und Ergebnisse zu dokumentieren. Es gibt daher keine Möglichkeit, die Resultate ethnographischer Forschung auf fiktive externe Validitäts- und Reliabilitätsstandards zu beziehen, die den Leser von der Qualität der Datenanalyse überzeugen sollen. Mit diesem Problem werden alle Feldforscher konfrontiert, die Daten vermittels hermeneutischer Vorgehensweisen analysieren, da ein solches Vorgehen explizit auf die nicht dokumentierbare Fähigkeit zur Dateninterpretation setzt. Der Verfasser setzt sich mit grundlegenden Problemen bei der Erstellung ethnographischer Forschungsberichte auseinander und erörtert entsprechende Lösungsvorschläge. (ICEÜbers)

Ethnographic work is not only made of getting and analyzing data, but also of writing a research-report. Qualitative proceeding researchers always work unstandardized and are in principle not able to document the data and their results altogether. This is why there is no possibility to relate the results of ethnographic research to (fictitious external) standards of validity and reliability, intending to convince the reader of the quality of the data analysis. All field-researchers who analyze their data with hermeneutic procedures are specially confronted with this problem, because this practice is explicitly projected as an undocumentable art of interpreting data. This paper designates some essential problems in writing ethnographic research-reports, debates some pretended solutions and suggests a possibility to weaken them.
