Qualitative proceeding researchers always work unstandardized and are in principle not able to document the data and their results altogether. This is why there is no possibility to relate the results of ethnographic research to (fictitious external) standards of validity and reliability, intending to convince the reader of the quality of the data analysis. All field-researchers who analyze their data with hermeneutic procedures are specially confronted with this problem, because this practice is explicitly projected as an undocumentable art of interpreting data. This paper designates some essential problems in writing ethnographic research-reports, debates some pretended solutions and suggests a possibility to weaken them.... view less
