Kapitalistische Strukturlogiken in der neuen Mitleidsökonomie

Abstract

Der Begriff der neuen Mitleidsökonomie beschreibt ein System, in dem unbezahlt Tätige von Armut betroffene Menschen mit Lebensmitteln, Kleidung oder anderen existenziellen Gütern versorgen. Gemeint sind Tafeln, Sozialkaufhäuser oder Wärmestuben für Wohnungslose und in einem erweiterten Verständnis auch foodsharing-Initativen, Nachbarschaftsküchen oder onlinebasierte Secondhand-Angebote. Das unbezahlte Engagement der freiwillig Helfenden oder Aktivist*innen wird zumeist als Arbeit aus Liebe, Fürsorge oder Mitleid verhandelt und die Notwendigkeit der Arbeit somit unsichtbar gemacht. Anlehnend an die feministisch-marxistische Kritik der 1970er- und 1980er-Jahre weist der Artikel erstens auf den reproduktiven Charakter dieser Tätigkeiten und deren gesellschaftliche Notwendigkeit hin. Die Ausbeutungsdimension der teilweise nur vermeintlich Freiwilligen wird herausgearbeitet sowie das System insgesamt in die aktuelle Sozialpolitik eingeordnet. Zweitens nimmt der Artikel weitere kapitalistische Strukturlogiken in den Blick und verdeutlicht die mögliche Konsequenz, nämlich die Entstehung eines parallelen, zweiten Versorgungsmarkts für Armutsbetroffene.

The concept called "new charity economy" describes donation-based and voluntarily organised care services where unpaid people support people who are affected by poverty with food, clothing or other existential goods. Examples are foodbanks, social supermarkets or shelters for homeless people and, in a broader sense, also food-sharing initiatives, neighbourhood kitchens or online-based second-hand offers. The unpaid commitment of the volunteers or activists is usually considered as labour of love, care or compassion, thus making the necessity of this work invisible. Drawing on feminist Marxist critiques from the 1970s and 1980s, the first part of this article points to the reproductive aspect of this kind of work and to its social necessity. The exploitation of these sometimes only supposed volunteers is elaborated and the system as a whole is placed within the current social policy context. In the second part, the article takes a look at further capitalist structural logics. Especially the potential impact of a parallel, second supply market for people living in poverty is highlighted.
