Emerging technologies have been exerting transformational pressure on media organisations for some time now (Küng, 2008). Media organisations are therefore forced to react in a targeted manner, to change and to learn. One theoretical construct that explains this process is the theory of organisational learning (OL) (Senge, 2006). In general management research, OL is already an established theoretical approach (Dick, 2005); in media organisations, OL has hardly been explored (Bernhard & Will, 2021). The strategic orientation of the organisation represents an opportunity to promote OL (Seçkin-Halaç, 2019). In particular, strategic technology orientation (TO) could be helpful for OL in light of emerging technologies (ibid.). Against this background, this paper addresses the following question: Is there a relationship between strategic technology orientation (TO) and organisational learning (OL) in media organisations? To answer this question, an exploratory online survey (period: Dec. 2020 to Jan. 2021) was conducted among German media managers (N=46). For the survey, the instruments of Hakala & Kohtamäki (2011) for TO and Marsick & Watkins (2003) for OL were adopted. Survey data were analysed using Spearman's rank correlation. The core result of the study is that a significant relationship exists between TO and OL.... view less
