In digitalisierten, kapitalistischen Ökonomien nimmt Überwachung gegenwärtig eine ubiquitäre Stellung ein, deren Formen und Funktionen im Bereich der Surveillance Studies erörtert werden. Geprägt von einer Tradition gouvernementalitätskritischer Theorie stehen dabei vor allem das Verhältnis von Privatheit und Öffentlichkeit sowie von Un/Sichtbarkeit und Un/Sicherheit im Fokus, die in einer Reihe fundierter Zeitdiagnosen diskutiert werden. Während damit ergiebige Symptomanalysen vorliegen, erscheinen sie zugleich häufig als merkwürdig ursachenblind, was nicht zuletzt darin begründet sein mag, dass queerfeministische Positionen bislang nur wenig Beachtung finden. Surveillance plays a crucial role in contemporary economies of digital capitalism. Its modes and operations are currently being analysed in the interdisciplinary field of surveillance studies, which is rooted in the tradition of critical governmentality studies. These debates mostly focus on issues of privacy, closely linked to the fields of in/visibility and in/security, offering an impressive in-depth view into the effects and symptoms of surveillance. However, these studies mostly lack a deeper understanding of the causes, as well as the immanently sexualized nature of these fields. It is here that queer feminist theory, which has a long theoretical tradition of dealing with the sexualized natures of the private/public dichotomy, could provide the necessary assistance so as to be able to gain a more nuanced understanding of contemporary surveillance dynamics.
