Die Trendbestimmungen zur Zukunft der Erwerbsarbeit in Deutschland richten sich auf die Perspektiven qualifikationsintensiver Arbeitsprozesse und auf die Bewältigung des Fachkräftemangels in der Wissensgesellschaft. Auch die Mitbestimmungsforschung stellt Facharbeit und Hochqualifizierte ins Zentrum ihrer Untersuchungen. Geringqualifizierte Arbeiten, also Tätigkeiten, die schnell erlernbar sind und keine berufsfachlichen Qualifikationen der Beschäftigten voraussetzen, finden nur wenig Platz. In kritischer Auseinandersetzung mit diesen Sichtweisen zeigt der Beitrag, dass diese Einfacharbeiten bei aller Verlagerungs- und Substitutionsdynamik ein wichtiger Faktor in der Industrieproduktion bleiben. Für Gewerkschaften und Betriebsräte ist das Thema Einfacharbeit ein schwieriges Terrain, das zahlreiche Spannungsfelder hinsichtlich Beschäftigungsformen, Arbeitsbedingungen und Qualifizierungsbedarfe umfasst.... view less

Germany is normally regarded as a country with a prevailing high-skilled work-force. This perspective characterizes also most of the recent works on industrial relations. The paper critically reconsiders this mainstream perspective and discusses the situation as well as the development perspectives of low-skilled industrial work in advanced societies. The argument is, that in specific industrial sectors and areas low-skilled industrial work shows a remarkable stability. Unions and works councils are challenged to find a balance between safeguarding low skilled jobs and improving working conditions.... view less
