En 1968 había una cultura social vivamente interesada en el desarrollo del arte y el pensamiento dentro y fuera de México. La desazón ante la desigualdad social, la irritación contra la rigidez del sistema político e incluso el rechazo al autoritarismo que se expresó en las calles entre julio y septiembre de aquel año axial fueron precedidos por la expresión de esas mismas emociones y convicciones en las salas de teatro y cinematográficas, en las galerías de exposiciones, en los libros de moda y, de cuando en cuando, en los medios de comunicación. In 1968 there was a social culture vividly interested in the development of art and thought both inside and outside Mexico. The concern with social inequality, the irritation against the rigidity of the political system and even the rejection of the authoritarian regime that was voiced in the streets between July and September of that year, were preceded by the expression of those same emotions and convictions in theaters and cinemas, exhibition galleries, the best-known books and, from time to time, in the media. Despite the official restrictions, which reached blatant censorship, there was an intense cultural life and the artistic creation found appropriate channels to develop without restraint.... view less
