The recent decision of the Republic of South Sudan to stop the oil production due to the deadlock in the negotiations with the North regarding pipeline transportation fees demonstrates that the relations between the two Sudans are still far from normal. Furthermore, the decision can be understood as one cornerstone of the intensified orientation of South Sudan towards its Southern neighbors.
