I explain my experiences of the care crisis in relation to neoliberal transformations of parenting, which I read as the cooptation of feminist claims. They both modernize and traditionalize gender relations. On the one hand, there are new liberties when it comes to organizing production and reproduction, like the model of female breadwinner and male caregiver which I have at times lived, but these do not apply to everybody. On the other hand, neoliberal privatization and individualization are aggravating the care crisis, the burden of which is above all being carried by women* and those in need of care. My particular interest is the possibilities as regards a new organization of care and emancipatory care practices.... view less
