European Family Policy Database: Database on Specific Family-Policy Measures in 16 European Countries; Draft Manual

Abstract

Die "European Family Policy Database" wurde am Mannheimer Zentrum für Europäische Sozialforschung entwickelt und wird seit 2001 vom ÖIF weiter gewartet, upgedated und vertrieben. Die Datenbank enthält in international vergleichbarer Form Zeitreihendaten zu familienrelevanten Policies wie zur Kinderbetreuung, Förderungen etc. sowie Informationen zu einzelnen familienpolitischen Maßnahmen und deren Veränderungen. Die Datenbank enthält Informationen über 16 europäische Länder. Die Datenbank wurde als Basis für international vergleichbare Länderstudien zu familienpolitischen Maßnahmen entwickelt und war Teil eines internationalen Projektes hierzu. Die Datenbank soll einem breiteren Kreis von Forschern zugänglich gemacht werden. Derzeit wird auch die Eignung als Kontextdatenbank im Rahmen des Gender and Generation Programms der Vereinten Nationen überprüft.

The European Family Policy Database provides comparative and country-specific data and information on family policies in 16 European countries. For the purpose of the database, family policies are defined as public policies explicitly targeted at families or policies that expressly consider families in their institutional regulations. The aim of the database is to facilitate comparative family-policy analyses by providing data on the lowest possible aggregation level, by utilizing standardized variables and by accurately indicating institutional regulations. This manual wants to help potential users to navigate through the database and to find the desired information. The target audience are interested researchers who want to compare family policies across different European countries.
