Während der im November 2015 abgehaltenen Tagung am Kulturwissenschaftlichen Institut in Essen befassten sich 15 Referierende und 30 Gäste aus verschiedenen Perspektiven mit dem Bild als soziologischem Problem. Ziel der Veranstaltung war es, zu einem besseren Verständnis der Bedeutung und Folgen des Gebrauchs moderner Bildmedien für die Vergesellschaftung zu gelangen. Die im vorliegenden Bericht zusammengefassten Beiträge ermöglichen nicht nur eine weitere empirische Fundierung einer Theorie visueller Sozialkommunikation, sondern werfen ebenso Fragen auf, denen im Zuge zukünftiger Forschung nachzugehen ist und die im Rahmen weiterer Tagungen zu diskutieren sind.... view less

This conference report summarizes different perspectives on the image as a sociological problem. During the conference, which was held in November 2015 at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities [Kulturwissenschaftliches Institut] in Essen, Germany, 15 speakers and 30 guests discussed different approaches with the aim to achieve a better understanding of the meaning and impact of visual media on sociation. The contributions not only provided an empirical foundation for a theory of visual social communication, but they also posed questions to be investigated in future research and discussed in following conferences.... view less
