Dieser Beitrag analysiert die Rolle von Bildern im Diskurs über Psychopathologie, um die Verbindung zwischen psychologischem Wissen und Macht aufzuzeigen. Wir stellen eine "Viskursanalyse" zur Diskussion, die sich uns aus zwei irritierenden Bildern eines im deutschen Sprachraum verbreiteten klinisch-psychologischen Lehrbuches aufgedrängt hat. Darin werden Photographien aus dem Vietnamkrieg als Bebilderung für die als (scheinbar) unbegründeter Angstanfall definierte Panik sowie für die Psychopathologie der Gefühle verwendet. An diesen Bildern lässt sich zeigen, wie in der psychologischen Doxa das Reale, d.h. konkret erlebte Kriegsgräuel, verdrängt und somit seelische Verstörungen dekontextualisiert und individualisiert, d.h. in individuelle Weltprobleme, umkodiert werden.... view less

This paper analyses the role of images in discourse on psychopathology in order to uncover relations between knowledge and power. We propose a "viscourse analysis" that takes two images from a German clinical psychological textbook as its starting point. In this textbook, two photographs taken in the context of the Vietnam War function as illustrations for the concept of panic, defined as a (seemingly) causeless attack of fear, as well as for the pathology of emotions in general. With the help of these images we demonstrate how psychological doxa suppresses the real, i.e., actual experiences of war atrocities, and decontextualizes and individualizes human suffering.... view less
