Psychosomatische Medizin - von emanzipatorischem Potenzial und Anpassungsdruck

Abstract

Psychosomatische Medizin als akademische Disziplin hat in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten eine ambivalente Entwicklung durchlaufen: Sie erlebte einen erfolgreichen Institutionalisierungs- und Professionalisierungsprozess, währenddessen verblassten allerdings die ursprünglich entscheidenden Fragen nach dem Zusammenhang von psychischen Konflikten und körperlichen Krankheiten an der Schnittstelle von Körper, Psyche und Gesellschaft, während der Bedarf nach psychosomatischen Behandlungsmethoden stetig steigt. Im vorliegenden Beitrag wird diese Entwicklung nachgezeichnet und der entsprechende Diskurs in der Zeitschrift für Psychosomatische Medizin und Psychotherapie diskutiert.

Over the last decades the academic field of Psychosomatic Medicine has had an ambivalent development: While it went through a successful process of institutionalization and professionalization, questions that had defined the field in its beginning slowly disappared. The debate about the link between mental conflicts and somatic diseases at the interface of body, psyche and society has quieted down, whereas the demand for psychosomatic therapies continues to grow. This paper portrays this development and analyzes the corresponding discourse in the journal 'Zeitschrift für Psychosomatische Medizin und Psychotherapie'.
