Objective: To describe through the scientific literature, the impact that children with special health care needs cause on their families. Method: Integrative review, performed in MEDLINE, BDENF, LILACS e IBECS database. There were 67 articles published between 2003 and 2013 selected, which constituted the study sample. Results: This issue has been investigated with priority in international studies and the impact occurs in the transmission of the diagnosis and results in financial repercussions, on health and everyday social life of family members.
