In Zeugnissen bzw.
Current approaches in social and cultural geography research spaces, places and regions as products of day-to-day practice. From the supposedly solid ground or physical/material context of social phenomena, "space" itself is transformed into the result of social construction. In the sense of the "linguistic turn" in the social sciences and humanities, language, communication and interaction are essential instances of the production of space and place. Answering this new ontological orientation with relativism and epistemological scepticism towards the reality of spatial phenomena would be inadequate. Current approaches of cultural and social geography have therefore made it their task to explore possibilities how the day-to-day construction of spatial reality can be reconstructed methodically (e.g. in the form of discourse, narration and argumentation). Argumentation as a day-to-day practice, the "giving and asking for reasons" (Brandom), opens up a particular analytical approach, since in the process of argumentation and justification not only the apparent content of the statements is expressed and negotiated, but also their conditions for validity and their consequences. In extracts from day-to-day language (e.g. interview transcripts, documents, and the media) there are examples of problematic and unquestioned, both disputable and indisputable assumptions about the shape and nature of spatial units such as places, regions or territories. It emerges that in arguments there are generally implicit space-constituting logical rules which function as rules of inference in argumentation. The social exchange of arguments therefore represents an important practice of the reproduction of space-related knowledge.en
