Assistive Technologien für ältere Menschen: Nutzen für EndanwenderInnen und Herausforderungen im Einsatz

Abstract

Ältere Menschen haben den Wunsch, so lange wie möglich in ihrer gewohnten Umgebung zu bleiben, betreut werden sie dabei noch hauptsächlich von ihren Angehörigen. Das familiäre Pflegepotenzial geht zunehmend verloren und professionelle Pflegekräfte werden verstärkt gefordert. Aufgrund fehlender Ressourcen in der Pflege- und Betreuungslandschaft ist jedoch ein Engpass zu erwarten. Hier haben assistive Technologien die Chance unterstützend zu wirken, sowohl für die ältere Bevölkerung als auch für die Betreuungspersonen. Die Verwendung technologischer Produkte lässt jedoch auch ethische Fragestellungen zutage treten, die wissenschaftlich aufgearbeitet werden müssen.

The sector of elder care is characterized by an increasing demand and decreasing supply. In the qualified and professional care sector, this decreasing supply is discussed as a »shortage of nurses« and is explained by referring to the low attractiveness of professions related to elder care, but also by poor employment conditions in these occupations. The article analyses the area of professional, qualified long-term care from a social-sciences-based perspective. Against the background of different concepts of care employment, conditions of professional care workers are analysed, referring to qualitative interviews. The aim is to contribute to the development and discussion of concepts that may help to overcome the low valuation of care work. Additionally, further inputs for intensifying the discourse on care quality are being made.
